LAMA CHAIR
Lama Char is a multi purpose furniture designed to serve as a knowledge distributing public seating unit. Lama Chairs unusual form is solely driven from two geometric instances; this furniture can be used both as a public bench or a personal chair when rotated around 90 degrees around its axis. The object serves as a bookshelf and a seating unit simultaneously to enrich the time spend waiting in public resting areas with a secondary activity where people read or to exchange books. A metal tube extrusion forms the main skeleton of the chair. It is then infilled with MDF board and finished with plywood to form the sitting surface. The unit includes detachable Plexiglas surface to form the book shelves. They could be used detached/attached in both positions of the furniture. A detachable steel bracing element is designed to provide extra support when the furniture is used in chair position. This piece was exhibited in Istanbul Design Week in 2010.
