THE LOFT
THE LOFT is a speculative fast paced design project that aims to explore a vacant manufacturing warehouse typology being re-utilized as rentable residential lofts.
The living spaces are simply created by using the existing structural grid of the warehouse. With the idea that each unit would fit into 2 longitudinal grid spaces, the top floor of each adjacent unit is extended and overlapped on opposing sides in a “tongue&groove” way. resulting with 1 and 1/2” floor units that have 3 to 4 separate living areas each. This is intended to provide a better floor area to facade ratio allowing more day light into each space as opposed to having deep and darker spaces.
The point of overlap for each unit is used as vertical circulation topped with a skylight and an integrated shading device.
The renderings speculate a scenario where a unit is used as a home office. The entry is dedicated for an office space, visitor seating and a kitchen area while the rear space is utilized as a private leisure room. The upstairs is used as an open master bedroom area just enough for an individual or a couple to settle in.
